Cons and pros of the different means of transportation

February 29, 2020 by Paul

There are 4 major means through which an individual can travel today. They include by air, by road, by water, and by rail. For each of these means of transportation, there are various ways you can travel through them. The only exception is rail, where you can only travel on a train. This article will discuss the different means of transportation as well as the advantages and disadvantages of each.

By air
Air travel allows people to travel in different sizes of planes including private jets and helicopters. However, for normal public flights in passenger trains, there are always different categories of seats including economy, business, and first-class. Thus, people in the same plane could pay varying ranges. Furthermore, there are many airlines that provide passenger flight services. Thus, a different plane, the same class of ticket could cost differently. The type of service you might expect are also different. The major advantages of traveling through air are speed and safety. Even though plane accidents are mostly deadly, they are still regarded as the safest means of transportation since they have a significantly lower accident rate than any other means of transport. The major disadvantage, however, is cost. Fortunately, companies like Globehunters could help you compare prices and then you could go for the cheapest flight or the cheapest among your preferred airlines. Another disadvantage is the limitation of air travel. You cannot fly every other time you want to move around, like from your house to your office. In virtually all cases, after getting to your destination, you would need a car or train service to move from the airport to your lodge.

By road
Another major way people travel or move around is by road. There are always several ways through which you can access. The major advantage of traveling by road is the wide road network across the world. It is through roads that you can access everywhere you want to access. This is as opposed to rail that only links train stations, ships, and boats that only link ports as well as planes that only link airports. Traveling by road is also affordable. However, roads cannot link everywhere especially across continents that are completely cut out by water. Furthermore, the roads are not as fast as planes and trains. A distance that could take you days in a car would take just a few hours by air.

Rail
The major advantage of rail is that it is very cheap and a means of moving a large number of people and goods at the same time. Trains are also getting faster with speed trains. On the other hand, their linkages are also very limited, rail tracks even within countries are limited and cannot be used to travel across several countries except a close to a border town to a close to another close to the border town in a different country.

By ship
It is only during cruises and for business reasons that you would find people traveling through ships. Most people would prefer to fly. However, traveling on ships is also affordable and relaxing considering most trips by ship across countries would take days.
