Preparing for An International Flight

November 7, 2017 by Paul

Going on a long flight can either be a huge pain or it can be a nice, relaxing opportunity to enjoy some down time and a little well-deserved R&R. While nothing can change the fact that you are stuck in a plane for a long period of time with no means of getting off, being prepared will help make a long flight a lot easier. There is nothing worse than being on a really long flight without anything to keep you entertained or to enhance the comfort of the plane ride.

Say you are planning on looking into flight from London to Johannesburg, you know you are looking at quite a few hours of in-flight time. You will need more than just your cell phone in order to make sure that the ride is as comfortable as possible. And chances are, you are going to be unable to use your internet or data on the plane (at least, not without expensive in-flight internet charges), so it helps to have more than one form of entertainment.

What follows are some preparation tips that will help ensure that you having everything you need to ensure that you are comfortable and entertained during the long flight. Even if you are making a really long haul, like taking flight from Birmingham to Paris, these preparations will help make the trip as smooth as it possibly can be.

Consider Your Connections

One thing that a lot of us fail to plan for, especially on international flights, are long, boring connecting flights that lead to extended layovers in who knows where. If at all possible, avoid flights with layovers, and if this is not possible, try to select a flight that has as short of layover times as possible. There are horror stories of people being stuck for hours or even days, waiting for a late connecting flight in a town you’ve never been to and never planned on stopping in.

Find Out About In-Flight Accommodations

Not all flights offer in-flight meals and snacks anymore, and a lot of them charge extra for these perks. You will want to check ahead of time so that you can plan accordingly. If the plane does offer food, look into your options so you can determine if they are suitable or not. If they don’t have food service, you will want to make sure you bring snacks so that you don’t go hungry the whole flight. Some flights offer in-flight movies or other forms of entertainment. It can be helpful to determine what these are, what the movie/TV options are, and if these are suitable to your needs. If they aren’t, you will need to bring your own entertainment.

Consider Your Clothing

While we all like to look our best, we have to think about comfort on a long flight. You will want to wear comfortable clothes that allow for freedom of movement. You also want something that can handle being sat in for long periods of time or even slept in. This is why a lot of people choose athletic or lounge wear for long plane rides. You can click here for an array of mens tracksuits to view one of the many websites available to purchase suitable outfits for travelling in.

Preparation can really take a lot of the hassle out of making long distance flights. Knowing what to expect and having a contingency plan so as to ensure that you are as comfortable and entertained as possible really help to make international travel a lot more bearable. The few things we discuss in this article are, of course, not the only things you can do to prepare, but these are the things that people most often overlook, that contribute to people’s dislike of long flights.
